What differentiates your school from all others?
We are the only school that combines small classes of no more than 10 students with one-to-one courses to create a curriculum and schedule for each student that supports their goals and challenges them appropriately
Where do you see your school in 5 years, what will be different?
Every year, The Beekman School looks forward to meeting the needs of our student body and preparing them for college careers and beyond. Whether this is incorporating new technology into the classroom or continually reevaluating the curriculum for our diverse community of learners, we hold the same beliefs today as we did at our founding in 1925—that our flexibility and small size enables us to be responsive to all our students.
Whats one myth about your school thats just not true?
“I thought you were only a [insert specific kind of school] school.” It’s easy to assume that, like most schools, we only focus on working with one kind of student; however, our students and families know that we work with students from a variety of academic and social backgrounds, many academic and personal/professional goals, and diversity of nationalities that rivals our neighbor, the United Nations!
What kind of student is most successful at your school?
The most successful kind of student at our school is the student who is committed to their personal growth through education as well as their growth within our community of faculty and peers.
Why should we choose your school?
We hope to reach the family who recognizes that their child would benefit from an educational setting that is engaging and comforting, supportive and challenging, individualized and collaborative.
What does a typical day look like for your kids?
While every student has a unique schedule that matches their goals and abilities, most students’ schedules will have the same basic structure: The majority of underclassmen arrive at school by 8:30 a.m., ready to begin classes at 8:45 a.m. (most seniors begin at 9:30 a.m.) Over the course of our nine-period school day, most students will take six classes (English, history, math, science, additional language, and elective), have one period for lunch, and two periods to attend to schoolwork, either in a supervised study hall, our student lounge, or garden. Our school day ends at 3:50 p.m., at which point club meetings or other school activities take place.
