Important Q&A

What differentiates your school from all others?
Marymount is a leader in innovative teaching and learning: it was the first school to establish a K-12 Fab Lab in the United States and is one of two independent schools in New York City that is recognized as an Apple Distinguished School. Marymount was also the first all-girls private school in New York City to offer a comprehensive financial literacy program that employs Bloomberg terminals. Located just 168 steps from The Metropolitan Museum of Art, the School has two classrooms in the museum that house visual art, art history, humanities, and social studies classes. As a member of the Global Network of RSHM Schools which spans 19 schools on 3 continents, there are plentiful opportunities for global exchange programs, travel opportunities, and interaction with our sister schools.

Where do you see your school in 5 years, what will be different?
Marymount is at an exciting moment in its 93-year history, as it begins construction of its new permanent second home to complement its flagship campus on Fifth Avenue. The new building will accommodate flourishing academic, athletic, and artistic programming. Key spaces include: a regulation-size gymnasium, outdoor gardens, a theater, a chapel, music rooms, dance/fitness rooms, and innovative, flexible classroom space.

Whats one myth about your school thats just not true?
While Marymount has many treasured traditions, it is not an academically traditional school. The School offers hands-on experiential learning, encourages creative problem-solving, promotes effective collaboration and communication, and fosters ethical decision-making.

What kind of student is most successful at your school?
Students who think critically and creatively, are eager to explore their passions and possibilities, and are open to new experiences thrive at Marymount.

Why should we choose your school?
Marymount is not just a school, but a true partner for families as they raise their daughters at this critical moment in women's history. Our Catholic foundation roots us in the practice of morality and justice as we develop competent, confident, compassionate young women.

What does a typical day look like for your kids?
Upon arrival, students are warmly welcomed by their teachers and administrators. After settling into their classrooms, students eagerly engage in the work of the day. Class length differs by division to optimize the learning of each age group. Throughout the day, students move through the building and take breaks for snack, lunch, recess (in the younger grades), and advisory or homeroom (in the upper grades). Academic classes are complemented by a full array of extracurricular activities and athletics.
